Come on, give it a shot, and speak your piece. However, in my opinion, there is good and bad in everyone, and both sides of each individual that participates in the forum will eventually show up

Well, first let me tighten up the seals on my asbestos undies......
Fresh from another forum and the delete key not being someones friend (not me), I noticed that there was not the first time, a solved without an explanation and probably wrote a bit too much. Noticing that it was not "that" common an event, I thought "Eh, never mind". Just not sure how to cancel the post, only edit so just let the bubble sort (a covert consequence of this type of forum) sink it into obscurity.
I had thought to suggest that whenever someone calls a solved that they put the solution with it. Us newbies could learn from it and/or the egotistically challenged could know when to stop kibitzing.
Unless of course the solution would require an NDA or termination if the author showed it to us.....
I must agree that sometimes it is a little annoying to follow someones tribulations on a thread only to have end ubruptly or with a "I fixed, thanx" without any clue what the solution was. It's like finding the last pages of some paperback story missing. Still, there's not much you can do to prevent that and there's always another story to catch your attention coming along soon.
I think the reason no explanation is given is because the poster finally realized they made a dumb mistake in their setup and were too embarrassed to tell everyone their error.
You know, we've all done it. Didn't set the clock mode, forgot to add sufficient stack space, had the terminal window set to the wrong baud rate, etc (I've got a long list just from my own experience).
Now if the problem was solved with some very cleaver code or hardware then you bet the OP will be sure to let you know how they solved the problem.

When that happens and I'm interested in the solution, I like to follow up with something like a "How did you solve it?" response. Sometimes we're surprised by a reply. But many times, especially with a delayed post, the original author is long gone, so we should get that question in before it's too late!

Duane, I think this is true. Several times I've had a circuit that made me want to pull out hair. I wanted to post for help but refrained. After a day of troubleshooting I find out that a single wire was inadvertently pulled off the board by the company cleaning lady when dusting! I sure wouldn't want to post, "hey all! I found the problem. It was caused by the cleaning lady!!!"
Well, first let me tighten up the seals on my asbestos undies......
That's all....Frank
Frank, it does appear the most brilliant engineers gravitated towards this asbestos investment. However, incessant itching took over every thought, and posts were relegated into the realm of undue frustration sometimes resulting in impatient subversive wording, unmentionable language and undue sarcasm. I thought you would say, "it's time for a recall."
What is wrong with having a topic a little off subject?
I personally like an occassional thread to just shoot the breeze and joke a little bit. It provides a nice opportunity to get to know the guys and gals associated with the forum. There are plenty of serious threads to learn and teach things. I am personally tired of people harassing other people because their thread is a little off course. I wish this would change, but I guess people don't have anything better to do.
In my opinion, for the most part, a designated forum should try to stick to the topic, but hey, I am also trying to make friends here, so some light hearted conversation here and there in an off topic thread is good for that.
@peter, and a damn fine alibi it is, though I would reconsider using it in public.
@Bruce, the self-proclaimed forum fuzz should be glad I don't open the thread about all the old computing war stories/experiences/toys I have used/had/know about. I did that on the biomed listserve, in response to a question and seems everyone had a favorite to add. Thread ran strong for about 2.5 weeks..........
But social media. It is what it is, and that is why my favorite key is the delete key unless the forum is structured like this one. The bubble sort, which may not be quite an "unintended consequence" can sink some threads fairly quickly. I don't need to read what I don't want to. On others, "The delete key is your friend". (Which phrase is a mod of one I used to use while training medical imaging FEs in video systems, "the vertical/horizontal sync is your friend!!".
And what is soooooo very terrible about being a little off topic in the Propeller forum? Can you feel pain from it? Did it cause you any financial loss? I am certain that the problem existed before the thread was posted
Who decides whose off-topic junk is excessive?
What's "a little", what's too much?
Isn't everyone justified in his own eyes?
Does it make people feel important just to post in the Propeller Forum, no matter what it's about; somehow the fatuous is made significant because it's over here?

There used to be a set of rules about keeping things on topic, etc.... Folks might read the latest Forum Rules for an update.
C'mon Jazzed, you seem like a decent guy. Yes, there are rules, and I am all for keeping things in order, but I don't see why people attack one another for slight indiscretions within the forum, it is so unfriendly, and I personally find them more offensive than an improper post.
EDIT: Especially if it is me that makes an improper post, and then some $##*& comes telling me about it.
This thread has been moved to General Discussion. When the thread was started, it could reasonably have been in any of several forums. As more and more of the messages dealt with issues unrelated to the original title, the thread no longer "belonged" in the Propeller forum and the General Discussion forum is kind of a "catch all" for threads that don't fit into other forums.
I can't speak for other forum moderators or administrators, but I see my role mostly as responding to requests and complaints made using the Report Post button. In this case, several people expressed concerns in their messages about this thread drifting off-topic for the Propeller forum and they were correct.

this is a really true question from the bottom of my heart. No irony and no sarcasm at all.
Can you please explain what you mean?
Even in case I outed myself as really thumb. I really would like to understand it.
best regards
Stefan

Sounds like a good suggestion.
(And I thought this was going to get juicy.)
Paul
Your suggestion is good, I thought we would get a list. Kind of like:
I think not yet. You must in any case find your own replacement.
Frank
You may want to reserve some space in this thread to get an early post. That way you can always claim that you thought of it first

It is hard sometimes when you've done battle with something really silly like that. Been there. Will be there again too.
Somehow this should not be a worry, because it's basically funny, but it is.

It seems the thread title starts with the PROPer appellation to qualify it: "PROPosed new forum etiquette... "
Anyway, I'm just helping to PROP it up a bit.
Your in trouble now. The self-designated forum police are asking questions. UH OH. Good thing Peter has an alibi for you!

Nothing at all - in the GENERAL forum. Go there to "just shoot the breeze and joke a little bit" all you want!
