OK
I decided to try out the propeller by getting a hydra
I think that I jumped 2 steps ahead 'cause the manual seems to assume I know spin.
So I'm thinking I need a more basic starting point like the prop manual 1.1
I have been using stamps for years so I do know basic and have done some 8051 assy programming in the past.

suggestions?

The Hydra Manual is a really good introduction to the hardware and to video generation, but you do need other introductory information. The Propeller Manual is one "must have" document. You can download it for free. I would suggest going through the Propeller Education Kit tutorials which are also downloadable here.

You should consider buying Harprit's book

I learned SPIN from the Hydra book. SPIN is really just a version of BASIC with different syntax and more advanced abilities.

Isn't this true of just about any high-level language (moreso for µControllers)? They mostly function similarly but have different syntax and features and abilities and are written in different formats and for different purposes and so on...
I guess it would be difficult to compare SPIN to C#, but still.

Ultimately, zoid, you've done the hard work. Once you learn one language (thus understanding the logic behind syntax), it is much easier to pick up new languages.
