Erco: in my Robot article, page 58, Jan/Feb 2011, I show a detailed photo of a wood "machined" robot created and used by the Chinese in 206 BC through 20 AD. Robots were created during this period as slaves to perform monotonous work such as grinding grain, transporting materials and generating power from water. The level of wood working precision achieved was remarkable for the times. They turned wood into cogs, cams, levers, wheels, shafts, gears, sliders, pivots, and rack & pinions.

I like the way he uses metal balls for the human player with the contacts at the bottom of the cell. Sliding the tray is pretty neat too.
