I want/need to make a movie for the spinneret contest.
I need to make a movie of a telnet session on my PC.
I know there must be a free program to do this, but I have no idea what is decent to use.
Anyone have any suggestions ?
Thanks

Why so? If you Google for Windows environment software, you just get software you have to buy. But if you investigate Linux, you will find very good software that is both free and possibly ported over to Linux.

The above may or may not be a good start. There is other software for fully animated videos. But don't exclude Linux in your searches. And you may also find that you actually get more friendly support from other users of Linux software.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but Wink works under Xp.
With it you can capture screen activity for demos and tutorials of PC apps.
I once used it to create a tutorial on how to log into a chat.

The best of this type of software is camtasia studio, they have a trial period which could be
used to do it also.
It is not free, expensive in fact

Hope this helps

It should do everything you are looking for.

I'll try a couple of them.

Beware of freebie or shareware screen recorders, as they are known to be vectors for malware. In Windows screen recorders use DirectX filter codecs which are ActiveX components capable of doing anything on your machine. CamStudio is probably safe, as they've been around for a long time.
Don't forget there might be a utility for your graphics card, especially if it's a fancy one for gaming. The card might have a utility for recording direct hardware accelerated screen writes.

Ignore the download link in that post... but download it here instead:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=encoder (And don't forget the screen capture codec as well.)
I use it for all of my own screencasts that I do for work. You can then also use Windows Movie Maker to edit the movie and add titles, captions, etc. to it.

I also have the entire Free studio, not the most optimized, but very useful to have on your PC. (I'm assuming you are running Windows)

I'm not sure from the selection you posted.
