Too bad they profiled the guy who interfaced it to ... wait for it ... an Arduino.

I don't think it's too bad at all. The LRF has a Propeller on it, and showing it working with an Arduino means it'll likely get more customers for Parallax. Also, maybe some of those customers will try some of Parallax's other great stuff.

p.s. I helped Dino get it working with the Arduino.

Looks nifty. So it works like the Sharp IR distance measuring modules, sensing the distance via optical parallax effect? Seems appropriate.

The LRF is a lot more refined than the Sharp sensors. Those use analog PSDs, which are prone to errors due to spatial variations in subject reflectivity. The LRF uses a digital image sensor to locate the laser target in its field of view.

I sent Dino a Propeller Starter kit, a new Prop Education kit, and Propeller Robot Control Board (MRS1) so he wouldn't have any excuses about trying the propeller out. He is a very inventive guy, I am sure he will like the Propeller once he gets some time tinkering with it.

This was a BETA test. People are going to use it on other MCUs, and yes, there are others. Why not test it on an Arduino and open up the market to more sales? That is a question I'd like to hear your answer to. :)

Hackaday should at least add Parallax and/or the propeller to the tags for the article, otherwise, a nice project and well executed with a prototype.
