"K" Super computer...
Whoa, this thing sounds like a beast. 8.2petaflops a second. They said it was like linking one million PC's together AND it costs $10,000,000 a year just to power it... Wow!! The Japanese really wanted to blow away the competition with this one:)

"Supercomputers are used for highly calculation-intensive tasks such as problems involving quantum physics, weather forecasting, climate research, molecular modeling (computing the structures and properties of chemical compounds, biological macromolecules, polymers, and crystals), physical simulations (such as simulation of airplanes in wind tunnels, simulation of the detonation of nuclear weapons, and research into nuclear fusion)."
They forgot playing Jeopardy....

It will come in handy to compute the exact second the asteroid will destroy the earth in 2012, as the asteroid will not be detected until 2012. A lesser machine would not finish in time.
