hi, i've lost my usb connection and trying right now to connect the board with a rs 232 cable to a com port on my pc.
i do get an echo on com1 but the software says: No basic stamps found.

my questions are:
1 can i connect my develpment board with a rs232 cable to my pc to program the stamp module?
2 what are the correct com port settings?

thanks in advance

If what you have is a USB development board, you will have to remove the Stamp from the socket on the board and carefully put it in the breadboard area, then connect the Stamp to your PC using the diagram in the Basic Stamp Syntax and Reference Manual, page 28. You'll also have to connect power and ground, either +6V to +7.5V to Vin and Vss or regulated +5V to Vdd and Vss.

I thought the Parallax Professional Development Board only had the DB9 (RS232) programming connection and that the USB version just came with a plug-in USB to serial adapter. In that case, you're all set for programming the BS2SX and the BS2P40 using an RS232 cable and an RS232 serial port on your PC. How about posting a picture of your board or at least the Parallax part number from the board?

Some of the Professional Development Boards did have the USB connection. I couldn't find a part number on my board but it does have a 2005 copyright, so maybe it is an early version.

Angel2indigo, if this is the board you have you should be able to use the DB 15 connector just to the right of the USB connector in the photo.

Is there a number in the lower left hand corner? 28138?

It seems they used the same number for USB and Non-USB board. Can't find the schematic for the USB board.

    Are you sure that's a DB-15 and not a DB-9?

My bad, it is a DB-9 and that number is there, 28138. It's just not real obvious that it's a part number. I was looking on the back and the upper right area where the Parallax logo and phone number are.

edit: I dug out my Parallax binder and found the original documentation. I scanned the page with the USB circuit and made it into a pdf. It's the first time I ever used OpenOffice to export a pdf, so if you have problems with the pdf let me know and I'll try something else. I think the file size is way too big, but it's the best I could do at the moment.
edit2: I checked and the USB connection was present on the board in the 2007 catalog, but gone in 2008.
