ZigBee and the Prop

Hey gang;
I've been through the tutorials, and checked out Martin's XBee Objects, and done a search here, but I have not found anything substantial on using the ZigBee (S2, or Series 2) Mesh networks, and specifically API mode.
I've gotten the "transparent" mode working, but I'm really after using the API in a Mesh Network setting.
Has anyone else tackled this yet, and if so, anything you could share?
My initial application is a robot system that will support the robot, one or more "remote" controllers, and a PC. Long range, having control from the Internet via the PC, or a more direct connection might be in the cards. It is possible for any of these elements (including the robot) to be off line, or in sleep mode, and there will need to be provisions for the robot to find "controllers" of various types as it comes online.
A further application would be a network of data acquisition points at very isolated and remote locations.
