To make the ICON for the builders forum unique shouldn't it be changed to something that looks like a hammer? Right now it is the same as the ICON for projects.....

    Funny, I noticed that too...

I think a hammer would be a good icon.

How about a hand with a finger missing?

I've always liked this logo, seen in industrial settings:

Phil, your logo reminds me of the shop teacher with half of his fingers missing .... (waiving his arms around)... "I'm not >messing< around, you need to pay close attention to the machinery in operation"

    Beau,

Your comment kinda reminds me of this episode from South Park:

    "Stop screwin' around!"

It hurts just looking at it.

Hey, apparently Mickey Mouse is a builder, too. No wonder he always works in Base 8.

    Bugs Bunny, too.

And I shudder to think what probably happened to the Road Runner:

On that note, I think Wil E Coyote would make a good builder icon....... Had he only ordered from Parallax instead of Acme, the roadrunner show would have only had 1 episode.

Unless you are a master carpenter, "hammer" connotes "action before thought"

"Square and Compasses" represents "action based on thoughtful planning".

My first thought was a thumb with a band-aid. ;-)

So many symbols! So many attempts to corrupt the purity and essence of our natural bodily fluids!

I've always thought it was kind of funny that someone named Armand Hammer was on the board of directors of Arm and Hammer.

Is this true? That is funny.

    ON EDIT:
quick research suggest this is not the case.

    From Wikipedia:
It is often claimed, incorrectly, that the brand name Arm & Hammer originated with tycoon Armand Hammer, who owned a considerable amount of Church and Dwight stock in the 1980s and served on its board of directors. The Arm & Hammer brand was in use some 31 years before Hammer was born, leading some to speculate that things were actually the other way around and Hammer's father named him after the brand.

Perhaps a more in depth search will show he served on the board of directors.

BTW - I am not criticizing your post, just spiked my curiosity.

I like the square and compass idea, or perhaps the geneva drive. Somewhat more in line with the mechanics we are building.

    @doggiedoc,

I believe that Armand Hammer actually tried to purchase Arm and Hammer at some point - just to make things more confusing.

    See - http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/182/did-tycoon-armand-hammer-have-anything-to-do-with-arm-hammer-baking-soda

"Whatever the truth of the matter, Hammer once painted an arm-and-hammer emblem on his yacht, giving rise to persistent speculation that he either was (a) the owner of Church & Dwight, makes of A&H baking soda, or (b) a Commie. Tired of explaining otherwise, Hammer tried to buy the company, but they didn't want to sell. So in 1986 he settled for the next best thing, a partnership with Church & Dwight that netted Oxy Pete a sizable chunk of C&D stock and Hammer a seat on C&D's board. For a time, then, Armand Hammer was a director and owner (if not THE owner) of Arm & Hammer. Occidental sold the stock shortly after Hammer's death in 1990, apparently figuring a pun was not the best basis for a lasting business relationship. Freaking bean counters, they just have no sense of humor."

I think the wrench icon is more appropriate for this forum rather than the Projects forum, but I do like Phil's suggestion of the industrial grade finger remover.

Beau, maybe we had the same shop teacher. First day in class, he would raise a hand and say, "the number one thing you should never forget is machine safety." But his number one finger was missing! It gave everyone a real startle! I do not want to see a bloody icon to remind me of this.

    Howdy y'all!

I have created an icon for the Builders Forum. Just waiting on a icon upload in the near future.

Fortunately, no one suggested this classic: a logo of 3 gears properly meshing, implying a harmonious synergistic team approach...

Until you realize that the 3 gears lock each other and nothing can turn. Occasionally, this logo gets used in government and corporate applications until someone figures out the irony of it all.
