Looking for input. Any serious musicians want to comment on whether this is a good deal and if it's a must have for budding garage musicians who want to try some digital recording?

Thanks.

    erco,
Sorry I don't know about that item, but my most recent purchase is a Tascam DP-008 and I love it. You might want to take a look at it if you are interested in recording.

It looks like a decent interface, but keep in mind that it is a discontinued product.

If you have never used cakewalk before for composing music, let me tell you it is great software, however I would only purchase a license for it from their site http://www.cakewalk.com/ I am sure they have a free trial you can use to see if it is what you want.

Jorge, he's looking at an audio interface that Roland branded "Cakewalk". He's not looking at the Cakewalk program.

Ah, I couldn't see the image until now, I had a similar audio interface from M-Audio, they are nice tools to have for doing studio recordings. But if you intend to use it for live performances forget it, there is too much noticeable lag. The lag can usually be adjusted in the interfaces program settings but it will still be roughly 150 to 200 us for superior sound quality, its hard to get used to.

With regard to Cakewalk and their interfaces, I think it would be %50 better than the one I had, they have been around since the early to mid 90's and in my opinion are the industry leader in their field. There will still be a lag but it would be worth it for a cakewalk device, for $180 it would be a good buy since most places are selling these for $200 and over, but NOTE that this only a 2 channel device. I personaly would go for 4 or more channels.
