New PIR sensors

I just got some new PIR sensors as a bonus along with some other Parallax stuff. I searched for data sheets using #555-28033 per instructions on the package but said couldn't find. Am I the only one experiencing this. They do seem to work.

    Seeming is believing!
    Where's 28033 from?
    Isn't it still 28027 - only now it's "Updated!"?

This should help you out with the older Rev... Let me know if you have any questions.

What PIR sensors did they ship? Do you have a picture? In the ad that shows the three PIR sensors they show a lens on the top that is unlike the old or the new improved PIR sensor.

The 3 free for $100 purchase as shown on the Parallax home page is what I have.

Then that is some third variant that I haven't tried yet. When they offered that promotion that is the first time I've ever seen a PIR sensor with a lens like that. I have both the old and latest redesigned version of the PIR modules and those both have the dome lens. Perhaps someone from Parallax can explain why the modules in the promotion have an odd lens on them.

I have the same sensors.I haven't had time to even open them. They must not have a specific pdf yet.One of the staff has given a similar pdf for now, just wait.

I have taken a picture of the old Rev. One has the short range Fresnel lens on it and the other is the standard lens, but both PIRs are the same in function other than the lens. The PDF I posted will work for both of these.

That is the first time I've ever seen any of the early modules with the small lens. Was there a separate part# for ordering them? Besides the three free deal when ordering $100 worth of stuff can someone get more of that type if they want them?

Just to properly set expectations if these aren't something that we can buy more of or are discontinued they would be best used in one off projects. For larger projects where we many need a lot or a longer term future supply we should probably just try out the new version.

Yes, for projects use the new PIR. We make the latest Rev B ourselves and it will be around for a long time. Both of the pictured PIRs are discontinued.

Are the two versions of the PIR sensors interchangeable? I have a project that used the old v1.4 sensor in "H" mode (HIGH = movement/LOW = no movement) and I picked up a new one because I liked the visible indicator feature when it sensed motion... but the new sensor doesn't seem to work when swapped out. The LED lights when it senses motion but the device is not triggered. Restoring the old unit and it works again. The signal pin should be outputting the same as the v1.4, correct?

    Hi BRLewitt,

Are you referring to the PIR's included in the current ordering deal, or the Rev B? (You can take a look at the PCB and if it says Rev B then that's what you're using.)

If you have Rev B, then no, the signal pin is NOT outputting the same as Revision A. Please take a look at the product documentation for updated specifications.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Cheers,
    Jessica

Yes I am referring to Rev B replacing a Rev A. I read the document and Rev A indicates: "output remains HIGH when sensor is retriggered repeatedly. Output is LOW when idle (not
triggered)" and Rev B says: "PIR signaling; HIGH = movement/LOW = no movement" to me I am not getting the nuanced difference.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Ben,

Yes, that wording is due to the change in the jumper. Sorry, I misread your initial question, I thought you were referring to the output voltages.

To summarize, the jumper on revision A is used for triggering, while on Revision B it is set for distance, so the wording is a bit different to differentiate between that. The new PIR should output a HIGH signal to the pin when movement is detected, and a LOW signal when there's no movement (the same as setting the jumper in Rev A to 'H').

The new test code does have a 40 second warm-up time, so there shouldn't be any signaling until that passes.

If you're still having problems, feel free to upload your code and circuit. I'd be happy to take a look.

    Cheers,
    Jessica

    Jessica;
Is the Revision A documentation the same as documentation for the 555-28033 sensors that are part of the free offer? I never clearly figured that out from this thread. If not, is there a place where I can get any documentation for 555-28033?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

Yes, the documentation for Revision A of this product should be used for the free offer. You can find that information in the document Kevin posted, or at the end of the new documentation on the PIR product page.

    Cheers,
    Jessica

Jessica, I got a free Parallax Flux Capacitor with my last order. It's a rev B. Is that still rated at the original 1.21 gigawatts, or does this rev B comply to the new UL 3.3 gigawatt standard? And exactly where is that PDF located?
