Process Control - ADC Span/Offset

I'm working through chapter 6 in Process Control of Stamps in Class. I'm using a uA741 for the LM358 and an ADC0834 instead of ADC0831. I've figured out how to use the 0834 but not getting expected results for the uA741. Giving it 0.5V on the non-inverting input but the output of the op-amp will not drop below ~1.86V.

What am I doing wrong?

The 741 is a not very good, ancient, op amp. Use the recommended LM358, it's a much better device and will probably work properly.

i also tried to use LM358 than 741 in our process control class. it really works for me.
