112 x 16 Serial Graphic VFD Display 27970 and Spinneret

Let me start by saying that I would love to give you a sample program of this, but my sample program works fine. What is happening is that when I send a time to the VFD, it displays, but blinks in and out randomly. It seems to only do this in 2 line magnification mods. If I say with 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1, I'm fine. Unfortunately those modes are to hard to read at a distance. Anyone had any experience with this 27970 device and the magnification modes?
