Help: S2 went dead after loading default S2 spin program

Hi there,

I am a new owner of a S2. I replaced the demo program that comes with S2 and it was working OK. When I load back (F11) the default program obtained from the Parallax site, I saw the power light flashing continually and then the light went out. Turn the power switch off and on, nothing. The power light does not light up. Replace all batteries, same thing. Has any one encountered this problem before? No burnt smell though. Any ideas?

Thanks

    NutNut,

    Welcome to the forum!

The initial symptoms (power light flashing, then going out) indicate dying batteries. When you replaced the batteries, were they fresh, unused ones? What kind (NiMH or alkaline)?

    Hello PhiPi

They are NiMH. I encounters low power flashing before. But this time it was flashing much quicker than before before it went dead. I recharged the batteries and measured the voltage across each battery after recharge. They are all at nominal voltage. But when I turn on the power switch, there is no light, nothing. I even double checked the battery placement to make sure I did not make the stupid mistake of putting in the batteries the wrong way (polarity).

    Thanks

You might try reprogramming the S2 again. The "power" light is not really a power light, but is under program control. When you tried to reprogram the S2 under marginal power conditions, did you get an affirmative verification? If not, you may simply not have a working program on board, which would cause the blue LED not to light, even though the batteries are fully charged.

Thanks for the insight. You are right. I thought it was the power light. I can reload the program despite it did not come on when I turned on the power switch. It is working again after reloading the program. I guess it must have failed, as you suggested, during the program load due to low battery but I did not observe any error messages.

    Many thanks.
