ppBridge: Propeller Platform proto board with 10pin module support (STILL AVAILABLE)

FedEx dropped off a pile of PCB's today - ppBridge is the first new board to be announced before UPEW 2011!

At UPEW, I will be introducing a slew of I/O expansion modules... and I wanted Propeller Platform users to be able to take advantage of them.

Sapieha worked his usual PCB magic, and did a great job of fitting all the features I wanted on the board into the small 2.800"x2.500" form factor, with an advanced dual-density prototyping area based on Proteus... I hope y'all like it.

I am attaching a large JPEG showing the front and back of the board, and I will update this thread with a couple of built-up examples by Monday.

ppBridge features:

- Propeller Platform header patterns
- Propeller Platform mounting holes
- one RCA connector pattern
- one stereo 1/8" jack
- one DIP8/SOIC8/TDFN8 pattern
- four EXP connectors used by all Mikronauts modules and Parallax Proto boards
- one I2C expansion connector - used by Mikronauts I2C modules
- one H-COMM connector used by Mikronauts SerPlug, 485Plug, and Parallax Propeller Plug
- advanced double-density bussed prototype area
- silk screened labels for EXPx, H-COMM, I2C and PP headers

The RCA jack can be used for TV or audio output - use just three
resistors and a jumper wire to implement a Propeller NTSC/PAL output,
or experiment with alternate TV output circuits.

The 1/8" stereo jack can be used for audio+video or stereo audio
output, using either standard Propeller audio circuit or any other
audio DAC.

The DIP8/SOIC8/TDFN8 pattern can be used to add another EEPROM, FLASH,
FRAM device.

MSRP:

Now $11.95+s/h $14.95USD+s/h (includes one 40 pin snap-apart male header, RCA video jack, 1/8" audo jack, three TV resistors, two 10k resistors, four 100nF capacitors, one electrolytic capacitor and two 10nF capacitors for audio/video output and power filtering)

Add four standard 10 pin female headers for $3.00USD so you can plug
in Mikronauts modules

Add four stacking 10 pin female headers for $5.00USD so you can stack
multiple ppBridge or Mikronauts boards

Shipping is approx. $6 to the US for one board, about $10 for two, and $18 for up to 6 boards. Canada is a bit cheaper, other countries more expensive. Contact me for shipping / quantity quotes.

Of course, the module can also be used in reverse - to make Propeller Platform modules available to Mikronaut system users :-)

That's a lot of holes! Looks very nice, I appreciate how the traces are marked in silkscreen. Blue soldermask looks sharp, too.

    Thanks Nick.

Here are a couple of other quick product shots...

    - ppBridge with 10-pin EXP headers, RCA, and 1/8" connector mounted, front and back, mounted on a Propeller Platform
    - ppBridge with 10-pin EXP stacking headers, can stack on previous board

Of course the 10 pin headers are for Mikronauts 10-pin modules, and I am introducing a pile of those at UPEW...

I'll post more pics of ppBridge later, but now back to soldering up a few more RoboProp demo boards!

Nice Bill. I love the extra holes.

    Thanks!

The extra holes do come in handy - here are a couple of more pics, showing a three resistor TV output added on P12-P14, and dual simple audio dacs for the 1/8" jack, both driven from P15.

As you will see, the extra holes come in very handy...

    Bill,

That appears to be a good way to add a second Propeller (DIP40) to the Propeller Platform.
Can you post a wiring diagram of the holes?

    Hi Jeff,

Yes, a Propeller would certainly fit on ppBridge!

Open the jpeg of the bare board (from post #1) in a separate window, you will see the silk screening on top showing wiring / bussing; I will get a drawing made later today.

    Regards,

    Bill

    Hi Oldbitcollector.

Maybe I can answer that question.

If You look on attached picture.

RED buses are Not attached to any Voltage. In ends of them You can find holes that have silk names 3.3V and GND. This Holes are for connecting them to 3.3V.

I have NOT connected them to any Voltage to be possible connect them even to 5V.

    Bill,

Ps. other holes have all its bus traces on bottom side of PCB to be simple cuting them even after <You have soldered components on TOP.

    Thanks for posting that Sapieha!

Here are a couple of more pics of ppBridge...

One showing a mini-breadboard on top of a ppBridge that is configured with stacking 10 pin connectors

The second showing three ppBridges stacked on top of a Propeller Platform... the stack could even be higher!

    ppBridge is now shipping!

You can read all the details about this high density (almost twice the holes!) prototyping board for your Propeller Platform - it also lets you use all of the 10 pin Mikronauts modules shown at UPEW (and there are more coming!)

miniMods, MCP3208, DIG-8-IN-V, DIG-8-OUT-V will be posted as I catch up with post-UPEW work :)

You can see many photo's of it in this thread...

I ran across some boxes of production PCB's today while working on the lab.

ppBridge was one of them - so I decided to drop the price a bit, and remind people it is available.

The web site still shows the old price.
