1st time accelerometer project/kit ?

I would like to begin learning about accelerometers, maybe for rc/airplanes.
Is there such a project/kit out there?
I know a little about electronics, but really just a beginnner.

Parallax sells this one:

I've worked with it and it's pretty easy to use. As for a kit, there's nothing that I know of, but there's an object for using it with the Propeller, and there's code for the Basic Stamp as well. What are you hoping to use it for?

The sensors Parallax sells are a nice starting point.
For the Propeller there is also an object for the WII nunchuck.
You get 3 axis with it, and you can add 3 Gyros with the motion plus using the same object, which is well commented.
