connecting XBee to Stamp

Sorry for such a simple question but in the past I have been taught to use resistors to hook up anything (RSS/DOUT/IN) to stamp IO pins for safety. (I guess if directions commands are switched, grounded, etc.) Should I do this here and should they be 220 ohms or 10k? The XBee Getting Started manual implies hooking up to the stamp directly if you do not add on led's...is this ok?

The stamp is 5v logic and the xbee is 3.3v. You MAY get away with it but I would get an adapter that has level shifting built in to connect the two.

cplatt, since you are following the book, I'll assume you already have an adapter board.

Current limiting 220 ohm resistors are always a good idea, but if you ensure you wire properly and their is not code in the controller that may cause those I/O to act in ways not intended, it should be fine.

Hope you find the book beneficial,
