Some of the prices on displays don't look bad at all.

I found an inexpensive FPGA that does what you found but you have to use the computer as the screen for the scope.

WOW, This is what I would like to see the Propeller based Poor Mans Digital Oscilloscope evolve into, only with a higher sampling rate and a higher nyquist freq.
