Quite an interesting comparison of hexapods vs. serial kinematic positioning systems. Once those Firgelli linear actuators drop down nearer the price of a good servo, we can talk!

Interesting. At the APEX convention I was just at, there were a few machines there that utilized a robotic assembly by Fanuc that is of the hexapod style.

A previous employer of mine experimented for a while with using a hexapod setup connected to the bottom of the chuck in a wafer prober. The idea was to make a chuck that would planarize itself to the probe card. I believe they ran into some problems keeping all the motors in synch. It was never brought to full development.
