I'm reading an excellent book.
Microchip - An Idea, It's Genesis and the Revolution it Created by Jeffry Zygmont
http://www.amazon.com/Microchip-Idea-Genesis-Revolution-Created/dp/B000H2MISI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303007398&sr=1-1

You can get a copy for as low as 1.89 + 3.99 shipping

This is a really good history of the early days of the integrated circuit.
I can't put it down :-)
The entry Jack Kilby penned into his lab notebook on July 24, 1958, summarized his insight: "The following circuit elements could be made on a single slice: resistors, capacitor, distributed capacitor, transistor." (Some forty years later he accepted a Nobel Prize for that inventive jolt.)

Oh dear, I see this thread spinning into a darkness, a whirling abyss of spell check madness... we are doomed.

But all the same, HollyMinkowski, that is a very funny cartoon. In a sick "i like twisted", sort of way... :coffee:

It certainly was an interesting time to be involve in electronics and computers. To me it's a feeling that has only been equaled by the introduction of the 8080 and the prop.

The Chip by TR Reid is also a good one. I read another one that had some really interesting stories by Eldon Hall, called Journey to the Moon about the Apollo guidance computer. It was a $50 book but was an excellent view of early computing for an IC but pre-microprocessor computer. I've gone back through it several times. Thanks for the recommendation holly.
