Make your own vacuum tubes - 17 minute Video

From the website:

Check out this absolutely mesmerizing (17 minute!) video of a French amateur radio operator who rolls his own vacuum tube triodes! I love the ease with which he performs these rather high-end skills (like glass forming), the gestural flourishes (like it’s hand magic), and the Zelig-esque soundtrack. I saw this awhile back and plied my long-dead high school French against his written log. I loved the comment toward the beginning, paraphrasing from memory, "it seemed the production of vacuum tubes was something that could be accomplished by mere mortals." In postscript he's built several working radios with these tubes.

I really want a spot welder like his! I love the precise arbor press-like operation.

I liked the video too, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who like the spot welder.

Very nice. I've always thought tubes were works of working art. I wonder if people would talk so much trash if they had to make their own phones that way. I wonder if they could stand watching what they watch on TV if their TV sets had to be crafted by hand.

Excelent. Back in uni we made our own silcon diodes in one lab class. They really didn't have the charm of tubes. My diode had characteristics more like a resistor any way:)

Great video, I can only hope that when I am that age I can tinker around like that.
