I am wondering if anyone has used the an GSM Cellar Modem to talk to the Spinneret and what objects worked well for this type setup. Why I am asking this is, I am working on a web based monitoring system that will monitor and control the Bilge Alarm, Fire Alarm and monitored the incoming power to are ship that we are restoring.

Here is the link for what we are trying to do

    You're lucky. That ship is AWESOME!

    Which GSM modem though? Be specific with model and interface.

    I would terminate your wireless www to an Ethernet LAN first, then connect the spinneret via TCP/IP. I think you need to use the WIZNet chip's Ethernet interface on the Spinneret otherwise it would just be a Propeller Project, not a Spinneret Contest (I think). If the WIZNet can do RS232 over Ethernet then you'd have to write the code to facilitate that. If I were you I'd check with them to make sure that your project doesn't fall outside of the contest guidelines. It would be way faster and work better and (i think) fit the contest guidelines if you were just working with a LAN on your ship.

    Unless of course you already did that and were using the RS232 GSM modem as a backup for the ships www, in which case we'd need to know what modem is in question.

    Thank you, we been working on this project for 8 years now. Please visit our website to see what we are all about http://zunitamaroa.org/

    We are looking at two right now and have'nt picked one out. Both of these GSM modems can do RS232 and TCP/IP
    1) PIC GSM Cellular Development Board http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8851
    2) GE865 Evaluation Board http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9342

    Right now I am leaning to the option #2 which looks a lot easier to work with for what we are trying to, which has an quick up start for us. What, do you think will work better for us? Remember I am open minded person.

    Like xanadu, I wonder what purpose the Spinneret serves in your project other than RS485 to RS232 translation. How are you taking advantage of the W5100?

    @Mike,

    I will take a look at the xanadu later on tonite. How will xanadu work in my project, is it able take advantage of the W5100?

    My first pick was the PIC GSM Cellular Development Board which has an ethernet connection installed on the board. Which, I would take advantage of this feature to talk back and forth to the Spinneret. I want to able to use PIC GSM as is for now, without the need to program the PIC that is on the board. That board isn't out of running, I just need to do look into it more.

    If, I use the GE865 Evaluation Board, it can be used as an standard LAN connection port for internet pass through so are members and directors can do basic internet access.

    You may have given me an idea.

    I just noticed that and I found out the hard way. Which means that I didn't read between the lines.
