Digikey want to charge me $35 delivery - Can someone help me out?

I want to order 2 of these http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&itemSeq=97551910&uq=634355915004333915 to see if I have managed to track down the correct part and if it will work in the application.

Once I have got the correct item - then I'll probably be needing 20/30 at a time.

The problem is {as best i can figure} that postage for 2 is something like $35. For 2.

Suffice to say I'm not real keen on paying that sort of postage (for 2).

If someone who had a digikey account would mind adding 2 to their next order and would be prepared to post them to me in Australia then can you please contact me - I happy to pay costs, but $35 is a bit rich...

Edit: Sorry - didn't know that digikeys links were "timed" - the part I'm after is "CP-2280-ND". Hope that helps...

I get "Part not found" with that link.

DigiKey's parametric search URLs expire after a time. However, if you type the exact DigiKey part number into the search box to go directly to the product page, you should get a persistent link.

He doesn't give the part number, though!

Right. I was hoping the OP would see my post so he could make that change. I also wonder if there are any U.S.-based freight consolidators who could be called upon in a situation like this to reduce freight charges. I do notice that DigiKey offers free shipping for orders over AUD 200, in case that's any help.

I occasionally order stuff from them, and make the order up to £50 to get free shipping to the UK.

I do feel somewhat cheated in that they do not make the same offer to their domestic customers.

There are two major UK suppliers - RS and Farnell. The former doesn't make any delivery charges at all whilst the latter doesn't charge for delivery, but has a minimum order value of £20.

I would buy from either RS or Farnel if i could find this part on either of thier sites. but both seem to do 8 pin mini din, but not in the "pattern" I need

AFAIK, a mini-DIN is a mini-DIN. Each contact count comes in but one pattern. Anyway, here's a part on Farnell's website that looks identical to the one DigiKey carries:

Thanks Phil - This socket will do what I need.

PS: I too thought 8 pin mini-din was only one pin configuration. I have at least three variaitions of "hole" configuration that I have found.

My original searches on Both Element14 and RS turned up nothing with the 'offset middle pin" {see http://australia.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=1831805 for what I mean, the graphic at the bottom is not offset - but the data sheet is - perhaps I was was misguided by the graphic?? )

    BIG thanks for your help.

    I shall order some locally.

I'd be interested in seeing those variations. Can you provide links?

    Thanks,

pacman: I will be placing an order w digikey within the next week and I am in Gosford NSW (or will be - am o/s currently). I have the DigiKey CP-2260-ND which is the 6pin variety. There is also a non shielded version of the 6pin so I presume the 8pin variety exists too.

PM me if you want me to get anything.

    Pacman:

I have gotten my 8 pin mini-dins from here.

futurlec.com is very cheap, and i have ordered from them several times over the years. While i have not had any major issues, there was one. While this soured me a little, i will still recommend them with a grain of salt.

They also claim to have an office in Australasia (which i did not even know was a real word until tonight) Link They also claim to have an office in New York. All the packages they have sent me have come from Thailand or Indonesia. So that would be at least on the right side of the globe.

@ Phil - i haven't forgotoon you and will supply links shortly - Just it's been crazy busy at work lately....

@mlr266 - I searched digikey AU and they didn't have the sockets. Godd to see that offer "different products" for different parts of the world, must be something to do with ...ummm... import restrictions...yeah that must be it....
