Piezo Fil Vibra tap

Does anyone have an experience using this device from Parallax (Item code 605-00004)? I need to use it in 8 Plexiglas pads that users step or jump on. This is for a children's game at our Museum just like a hopscotch. The documentation (http://www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Downloads/docs/prod/compshop/PiezoInfo.pdf) show a 5.1V Zenor diode. I know high voltages are produced but would this diode/resistor protect the stamp adequately?.

I believe if the plexiglas was flexible enough, it could work. It does require a bit of flex to trigger a descent voltage.
