RC car Transponder Reader

I have a remote control car with an attached transponder used for the purpose of counting laps and lap time. The way I understand is that the transponder works by sending a radio signal with it's ID to the reader operating in the 900MHz band. Is there a way of using the basic stamp as a transponder reader? Allowing it to pick up the signal and identify the radio signal being sent.

A true transponder combines both a transmitter and a receiver. The receiver fields a query ("Who are you?") from a remote transmitter and responds with its identity and, possibly, with other telemetry data. To obtain an informed answer to your question, you will need to provide more information about the transponder you're referring to.

I have the transponder attached to the rc car. I guess I would like to build the receiver end. Is there anything that would work as a radio wave reader to the basic stamp (some sensor that would pick up the radio wave being sent). Kind of like the way an ez pass works. I would like to build the toll booth end of it (the device reading the ez pass.)

So whose transponder is it? Do you have a datasheet? Just saying you've attached it to the car doesn't give us much to go on.
