It wouldn't be nice for Parallax to undercut their distributors.

Dig deeper, my young Padawan: $98.95 , no sales tax and free shipping... from Canada! http://www.solarbotics.com/products/39145/

Parallax initially offered them for $99.95, and they threw in the venerable and highly-prized USB serial adapter and cable for FREE!

The real question is, why are used Scribbler 1's occasionally selling for $100 and more? True Blue!

erco is exactly right. The places that are selling them in the $100 range got a bunch at the original pre-order price.

Rich is spot on. You never undercut your own distributors -- that is, if you want to keep them.

Also, consider volume pricing. For example, if I buy 500 DIP Propeller chips straight off the website at $6.39 each, I could sell them at $6.99 each and be $1 cheaper than Parallax single piece pricing. In other words, Parallax doesn't set their distributors' markups (aka profit margins).

    Markuster,
There are many reasons why product prices change. Supply and demand, using a popular product to generate interest in other products you have available etc.

Perhaps you should use Google to research how business works.

Doesn't matter where you get the product, these forums are still available to you. So you win.

When you purchase a product, be sure to factor in shipping charges, handling etc. when determining the final price.

Solarbotics is a great company. I have always been impressed by their customer service. When the S2 became available, I purchased one of the originals for the full price, knowing the prices would drop later. Had I purchased from Parallax, could have gotten the usb cable deal, but sometimes there is a delay crossing the border.

Get the best deal for you, then enjoy.
