Emic Text-to-Speech SIP Module (Female) ...discontinued

Uh, yeah. Emic Text-to-Speech SIP Module (Female) is out of stock and discontinued. Except this is exactly what I need. Is parallax going to get more??? Is there another company that makes/sells them? If not, where can I get 1? Ebay? I checked, none there.

Help :innocent:

I believe that is a Grand Idea Studio design. You might want to PM Joe Grand (on these forums) to see if there are a few more laying around somewhere. His web site is http://www.grandideastudio.com/portfolio/emic-text-to-speech-module/

It looks like DigiKey and Jameco are out. Also Hobby Engineering and Solorbotics are out too.

I'm going to bet they are hard to find. If you look down in the "Similar Threads" box, you'll see people have been looking for them for over a year now.

It's too bad they are still being made. I use one all the time with my work.

    Good luck with your hunt.

i believe the reason they are discontinued is because of the winbond chip that were used in them are no longer in production. the only similar thing i have seen is the speakjet chip, that along with a text to speech chip for the speakjet is i believe the only thing that comes close to the emic tts.

$131 from Singapore, if you're really desperate, or spending someone else's money... http://www.roboworld.com.sg/roboshop/product_list.aspx?Category=Robot+Talks+

And shipping to the US is a bargain at USD$59.52 !

One of the best modules that I know of that has been around for a long time that is still available is the V8600A module from RC Systems:

It's a great module and I've used them in several projects. The price is reasonable and you can easily interface it to the Parallax Microcontrollers. I haven't tried the VStamp module but that may also be a great fit with the Propeller or BASIC Stamp as the controller.

This is my first post on this forum, so if I'm saying something that is not supposed to be mentioned here, I appologize. I'm looking for a text-to-speah system for my Stamp 2 BOE. Still learning about it also. But in the research I've done, there is a shield (add-on module) for the Arduino, that is based on the speakjet chips and goes for about $40. Has anyone interfaced that module to the Stamp 2? Thanks in advance.

That speech chip is pretty easy to use but if you want Text to Speech you'd also need to buy the companion chip TTS256 that can handle the Text to Speech for it. Otherwise you need to send all the phoneme codes yourself.

I really like the V-Stamp from RC systems. They're pricey, but I love 'em. You need to be creative with the breadboarding as they have a WIDE pin base. See photo for the solution I used. They are very easy to interface and the voice quality is good. I also used the EMIC and really liked it, but since they are discontinued, I can't make anything with it due to the possibility of failure and non-replacement issues.

I'm patiently waiting for the Prop gurus to come out with a cheap, single board Propeller solution with good text to speech that will easily interface to a Stamp or maybe even a 'Duino. I'm sure that SOMEBODY is working on it.

I agree with erco, this is a great application for the Prop. I think the problem of how to create the various sounds has been solved but teaching the Prop all the rules of English pronunciation isn't going to be easy. I hope someone is working on this.

(Their) silence is golden... if not deafening.

Hopefully, the wizards are not free to discuss the matter!

I agree, Eric. I've been asking Phil for this set of objects for quite some time. He did deliver a few examples to us a while back called "robotalk.spin" but it's not on OBEX.

The WinBond chip on the EMIC module was discontinued. We had no choice except to end-of-life the EMIC module.

XLNT, Ken. As long as you're listening and receptive, how about that Propeller antigravity module? :)
