Cellular Network access for the hobbyist?

Are there any modules out there that are designed to exchange data through a cellular network via something like text messages? I think it would be cool to add as a global tracking device or similar. I've looked, but haven't found anything on the hobbyist level. Does anyone know of some good sources?

I have been using a module called the DroneCell from www.narobo.com . There are plenty of How to video's on YouTube and the gentleman that designed the chip gives good support. I have some example code that I can help you with if you decide to go this route.
