9v power supply

I am going through too many 9v batteries and plugging and unplugging it from the breadboard is pain.
Plus I am afraid I might plug it in backwards one of these times.

I have a 9v dc adapter rated at 500mA.

My concern is the amp rating and voltage stability.

Should I use this or should I build my own power supply?

PS- Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything in the forum.

It might be unregulated, and will only deliver 9V with a 500 mA load. I'd check the voltage with a DVM.

I prefer regulated switching supplies; they don't cost much more than unregulated ones, are smaller, and are very efficient.
