Help PCB Layout Eagle

I have been playing with Eagle and I understand drawing the schematic pretty well but when it comes to the PCB board the IC parts are pretty straight forward but the resistors and capacitor in SMT are a bit confusing. Is there some sort of cheat sheet so I know what the proper smt size is? There are hundreds in the parts library.

I would also like to know about grid size. Some parts are .1 " and some are metric like 2mm spacing. If the pads don't exactly line up to the the grid will it still route properly?

Thanks for the help

    Thanks $WMc%

Do you know if the propeller is in the library? I looks more straight forward.

Propeller is in the library. gadget gangster is offering diptrace files of a lot of stuff he sells. You can grab components from there.
If you hand solder check for 0805 smd resistors and capacitor. It is a comfortable size.
