Forum link mystery.

Links in forum posts always open in a new tab (or window, depending upon browser settings), i.e., target="_blank". This is a nice feature, since it allows simultaneous or ping-pong browsing of a post and the content it refers to. But today I found a link that opens in the same tab -- the only one I've ever seen do this. Compounding the mystery, the link was quoted in the next post, and that link opens in a new tab. Here's the post in question:

Here's a screen capture that annotates the observed behavior:

attachment.php?attachmentid=78250&d=1297630735

I guess my question (if there even is one) is this: how did Kuroneko manage to create a link that opens in the same tab? I didn't think it was possible.

Thanks,
-Phil

It's not actually a link but a bbcode thread [noparse][thread=ID][/thread][/noparse].

Hmm, okay, that answer's the "how". (You're probably the only person in the forum to use that particular construct, BTW. :) ) So the next question is, "Why does that construct behave differently from other links?"

I find this ([noparse][post]/[thread][/noparse]) easier to handle than those long unwieldy URI constructs. While I have no preference re: same/new tab I'm sure there is a setting somewhere which can make link behaviour consistent.
