Has anyone found any hackable android tablets from ebay or any where else? I'm helping a friend with a project and so far the main requirements are 7" touch screen and a master usb port for controlling external i/o.

    I don't think you will find one with a host USB port. AFAIK they are all USB slave devices, and use high-speed USB. That's the case with my Dell Streak, anyway.

    It would require a lot of work, but a colleague of mine currently has a beagle board in a handheld application using a 7" touchscreen and running linux. You can run Android on a beagle board, so you could create your own solution.

    Archos 101, 70, and 43 have USB host ports. I don't know which capabilities they support.

    101 = 10.1", 70 = 7", 43 = 4.3"

    The 101 has a standard USB jack. The 43 requires an adapter cable. I'm not sure about the 70.

    An Insignia Inforcast 8" from Best Buy can be had for less than $100 on sale. If has an eight inch touch screen, and ARM 800 MHz, and two host USB ports. It is basically a Chumby Silvermoon and hackable. I picked one up after Christmas for future hacking possibilities.

    I see best buy has the Insignia on sale for $79.99 but only one store in town has one left. Most be popular.
    I found Digikey has the beagle board.
