Problem connecting to Say It Module
Hi All,
I recently purchased a "Say It Module", and am having trouble getting it to work with my PC. Right now, I am simply trying to get it to work with the "Say It" Windows software by using a TTL converter. I have tried connecting the converter to the native com port and 2 different types of USB-to-serial devices, a prolific and CP210x Silicon Labs chip - same results for all. When I click "connect" from the gui, the rx and tx lights on the ttl converter flash back and forth a few times and then I get an "unable to connect" error in the software. I tried connecting though a terminal program (tera term) using 9600-8-n-1-no flow, and the device connects, but does not respond like I would expect. When I press and release the 'b' key, I get no response (expect to get an 'o' response). When I press and HOLD the 'b' key, after a slight pause, I get a string of 'o's in response. If I hit the 'b' or 'x' key once an wait, nothing happens.
Regarding the connection, I have hooked up the tx, rx, +4.9 volts (3 aa batteries), and ground to the Say It module, but have not connected the Say It LED terminal to anything. Does that matter? Also, should I try connecting directly to RS232 w/o using the TTL converter? Is there a chance that I have a defective unit?
Thanks,
Don

The Say-It GUI we have, will only recognize the Basic Stamp 2. There may be hope though, the company that makes this device (Robo-Tech) has a few other platforms that the module can be used with.
Sample code provided for the following platforms for quick start on application development:
- Robonova and Robozak MR-C3024 (see demo)
- POPbot Wheeled Robots (see demo)
- Arduino USB Boards (see demo)
- Mikroe EasyPIC5/EasyPIC6 (see demo)
