New Enclosure for the Gadget Gangster Propeller Platform

Hey all-
Here's pics of the the "other case" I mentioned in another thread - It's for the Gadget Gangster Propeller Platform (GGPP).

When thinking of "gangster", think "...1920's...Bow Tie...Pin Striped Suit..." - hence the *look* of the case.

The case accomodates two daughter boards (ProtoPlus, or El Jugador) as well as the Propeller Platform.

Here you see the GGPP with the ProtoPlus board installed inside the enclosure. The TOP has no openings (they're not needed for the ProtoPlus).

This is the Bottom view of the assembled case. If you look closely - they're very difficult to see in this pic - there are knockouts that accomodate the Jugador.

If you remove the Bottom, and knock-out the knockouts, you get what's in the foreground.

What used to be the Top is now the Bottom, and the Bottom with the knock-outs is used as the Top.

This provides some flexibility, without adding any material cost.

Now be honest here. Isn't this "well-dressed Gangster in a Bow Tie and Pin-Striped Suit" totally awesome, or what? :-)

Matt: Excellent! You are getting a little too clever with that laser....... I'll have to get one for my GGPP. Do you have plans to make one for the GGPP-USB as well?

Firefox - no indication that there might be images at all
Chrome - little images indicating an attempt at having pictures. When they are clicked on, message "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"
Firefox - I see the first picture, the rest are like Chrome (presentation and behavior)

Pictures and links are now in the correct universe. Occasionally, we suffer from the Hawkings Effect....

    @Matt,

I don't see slots in the rear for the microSD (in the GG USB board) and the slot for the SD (in the rear of the El'J board)

    Are these two slots planned?

Matt gave me a sneak peek week before last before the punchout and holes for the ProtoPlus & El Jugador. Looks really awesome! Looking at the photos, it seems like you can put the enclosure together without using all 4 side panels. That seems handy when you're using it with other module. @WBA - this is for the Propeller Platform USB.

Nick, thanks, without being able to see inside, I had assumed it was the GGPP through-hole board. I'll still need one, since I have both! :thumb:

Nice. How about a shorty case for those of us who don't use the daughter cards for our projects?

Any chance you can make a larger version for the original Propeller Platform board?

@Bill - you don't hook it up to anything at all? I was thinking the extra headroom would be nice to fit your additional circuitry inside.

@Forrest - I suggested that Parallax start with the smaller enclosure because the Propeller Platform USB is significantly more popular than the Propeller Platform kit & they don't sell the kit. Schill did do a nice carrier design for the full size board (here), although that would be a diy effort.

Oh, Duh!, I do... I was thinking of the proto board for some reason. By chance does it have a slot for the SD card? (I have several of the Propeller Plafrom SD boards.)

Not all the cutouts are in place yet, but there should be a slots for SD, power conns, and the usb jack. If you use the Propeller Platform SD, you'll have 2 extra holes; the terminal block power connector, and the usb jack.

I received the enclosure in the mail yesterday, and was planning on using it with the El Jugador on top of a Propeller Platform, however the SD card slot for the the El Jugador is not accessable if the panel is put in place (see image).

Has there been a recent revision to the El Jugador module that no longer includes the SD card slot on the underside of the board?

Checking the front panel, it looks like the El Jugador module that I have has different dimensions on the RCA jacks as well, as the holes do not match up on this panel (see image). In the pic, I have the pannel backwards, however it does not work in either orientation.

[Edit:] Also, contacted customer support via email.

@Trodoss - yep, the original El Jugador had different spacing on the RCA jacks than the ProtoPlus, so I revised El Jugador to fix that. I also pulled of the SD slot so I could offer El Jugador at a better price. Shoot me an email (nick@gadgetgangster.com) with your address and I'll send over a new version of El Jugador.

Will the DXF file for the new enclosure be available on the product page (I seem to manage to ask this question about each enclosure that's released)?

Also, I can no longer resist the urge to say "Bow ties are cool" just in case someone might get the reference.

    Hi all,
What Nick says is correct (of all people, he should know :-)

Sorry about that trodoss, thanks Nick for fixing him up right!

Also, (there you go again Schill!) Yes, the dxf's should have been already up, but I have failed.

I blame Ken G. because we are working 25 hour days here, in a sweat-box, up-hill both ways in the snow.

dxf's on their way to the Web-eister as we speak.

Ken? How long 'til I get the key to the lock on my ankle chains?
    Bow ties are cool.

That's the spirit, but truthfully you were far more productive when that orangutan office manager sat outside your office full-time. The intimidation tactics proved effective in my view, especially when he made you fight over every banana.
