    Must be one of the first prototypes of the propeller where Chip tested the HUB with only 2 COGs.

    YAJT

    Yet Another Junk Thread that should not have been created -- [edit] in the Propeller forum -- as it has nothing to do with [edit] the Parallax Propeller microcontroller.

    Here's another interesting one, balancing a pencil on the pointy end with silicon retinas:

    A human being can't perform that task.

    This would not be complete without link to Hanno's danceBot, truly Prop-powered. Someone should sponsor a dance contest. Move over robot wars!

    Considering Jon's comment, would anyone mind if I move this thread over to the general discussion forum? Done.

    Interesting- never seen one with a propeller pushing air around. Years back I wondered about doing it with a motor spinning a mass at variable speeds to generate torque- never seen that done.
    Here's a video of dancebot using a propeller to process video and balance autonomously: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLzXThxZStE

    What sort of dance contest were you thinking? I could sponsor something- <shameless plug> I'm helping sponsor the next ChiBot meeting in Chicago- Steve W is giving a talk on "Programming MultiCore at the Speed of Thought"- using 12Blocks.</plug> I hope to be there virtually- although I'll be talking at another conference- the Kiwi Foo Camp half a world away...

    And to think that Ken Gracey personally invited me over to the Propeller Forum a while back, promising me how welcome I would feel there! From now on I'll stick to my Basic Stamps and Daily Deals, JonnyMac!

    Erco, I really do enjoy the interesting links to wonderful objects that you bring to my (our) attention. I think maybe Jon hadn't had his morning coffee yet, still grouchy, and too, I was a bit hasty to move the thread. Your post really is propeller related, albeit about a "real" propeller and not our's that sports the picture of the propeller-head beanie. This thread I think really does belong in this top forum, general discussion. Please let it pass gentlemen, and Erco, please don't take offense--Continue being very welcome!

    Hanno, I don't know how you could do a dance contest, like a "so you think you can dance" thing with judges. If not a simple popularity contest, it would have to have certain moves and assigned points, ugh, stifles creativity. I guess more of an exhibition than a contest.

    How about dance and other contests at this year's Propeller conferences?

    YAJT? Don't be so serious.....

    I find the Forum wonderful because it encourages people to seek creative solutions rather than adhere rigorously to a narrow definition of topic.

    This propeller driven pendulum is certainly creative and has me thinking it might even be a better fan for recirculating air in a small room - many fans are too directional and too windy.

    <stands up>
    My 5 cents worth: In many cases, an "odd" bit of information posted, or a link to some obscure project can and does provide insperation. I enjoy reading the stuff found and posted.

    I tend to agree with the notion that JonnyMac is out-of-sorts. Both erco and Leon's posts were absolutely fab, imho. Now if erco were to carry on and on about his granddaughter or something... :)

    I don't see any "pendulum's", all I see is "Balancing Sticks"...
    Can't see how I would attach an escapment, or get any reliable timing from the "Balancing Sticks" shown.
    Sorry about that, 16 months without work will make a person think this way...:blank:

    Not at all. Just pointing out the obvious that there are areas in the Parallax forums universe where one can post anything -- the Propeller forum is not one of them. Those that know me know that I help a lot of fellow Propeller programmers, so I don't appreciate the "oh he's just grouchy today" pandering. And, Erco, when you post a question pertaining to the Parallax Propeller microcontroller I promise that I will be there to help and make you feel all warm and fuzzy! :)

    Are You kidding? This thread has a video of a machine that balances pencils, and this does not make You concerned?
    The Pencil Balancing Machine is like the Ultimate "WTF" ever. Who made that thing? more important, WHY?
    Is anybody watching these People? is anyone else the least bit fearfull of this thing getting into the wrong hands?

    Let's all get our priorities adjusted, and watch the things that need watching...

    P.S.
    I still contest that the propeller thingy, as presented by erco, is a Pendulum,
    And I contend that it is indeed a "Balancing Stick Thingy".:nerd:

    @Jonnymac
    Your wealth of knowledge and on going support are appreciated.

    Admittedly, there are threads that seem to serve no one other than the author and his ego mania. But somewhere in the mix is a 'between' that keeps me returning to Parallax for help and information. I once mentioned to Ken Gracy in a PM that I thought the Forum(s) were unusal in that they had the right sociology. I can't put my finger on it, but as Voltaire may have once said....'I defend your right to say what you think, even if I don't agree.'

    I also enjoy Erco's threads though I do have a big criticism of him.............I just wish he didn't find those "bargains" so quickly as I can't keep finding the money so rapidly and then feel down in the dumps that I cannot buy the latest toy :(

    Erco rules when it comes to unearthing bargains on Ebay.

    I come a close second though....I love a bargain :-)

    I was away from the forums for about 4 months and probably
    missed dozens of erco finds....guess i should look at all his old
    posts and see what goodies I might still be able to get.
