I have developed relationships with some really good manufacturing over the last 8 years in China and I can only build so many products myself, but I like to keep them really busy. I see a lot of forum members building project/products, but in really low 10-25 kind of volumes by hand. If you want to try and do a small 100+ runs contact me and tell me about your product, I can probably get it made at one of my CMs for a lot less than you are doing it here, and VERY fast. As long as you feel you can sell thru 100 units or so, it is really nice to have them professionally made, assembled, tested, and packaged in china to take it off your hands.

Also, I can do straight PCBs with extra labor steps that would cost a fortune in the USA or UK as well if you need 50-100 of them. The irony is a PCB at the lowest PCB builder in the states might be $20 a unit, you get 5 units for $100 plus shipping. In china, I can do that for $1-2 a unit, so you can get 50-100 units for the same price in many cases --

Anyway, if anyone has the need let me know!

Being located in Taiwan, I attempted to have boards made locally. But for Taiwan, the board makers were quite greedy, didn't want small runs, etc. So I located a Mainland China maker and have similar cost and quality experience as you. I had 20 boards made for $100USD, was able to pay via USA Paypal, and received the product in a reasonable amount of time via UPS.

At this point it seems that a lot of second hand board equipment has migrated to China and since the overhead is so low, it is nearly impossible to compete - especially for through hole boards.

Where did I find this board maker? In a Nuts and Volts ad.

Yes, I think I have actually seen a couple ads in N&V and CC for offshore stuff, as you can see China and Hong Kong rock as far as prices go of course. Doing PCBs is one thing, full contract manufacturing is another that requires a long term relationship since usually $1000's or tens of thousands USD will be transferred in the cash and work product and that's why its good to start with company like mine to do manufacturing in China then in a few years when the person/company feels like they want to take on going direct then they have the experience hopefully in how to deal with and negotiate with Chinese manufacturing directly and not get in trouble.
