I have this LCD (see photo) and it has a rigid clear plastic front which I noticed has become scratched. Now I'm wondering if this is designed to be peeled off before use?
If it just like a thin film then you can just remove it. I think its there for protection while you handle it before you place it in the enclosure.
Thanks Moskog, I went ahead and tried slowly removing it. It does seem like a plastic film just for protection during initial handling and the install. It looks much better now without the scratched plastic. You can see the LCD in the project over here.
PJ, serious, it was stuck on and cut evenly out to the perimeter and not easy to discern if this was a protective layer or not. Maybe you have lots of experience with many of these LCDs. With the other two column LCD, the protective layer was haphazard cut and it was obvious it was made for removal since it was already beginning to peel off.
