Robo-Chassis Potential

I just saw this $30 OWI kit with multiple treads & wired remote that might make a good robot chassis: http://www.owirobots.com/cart/catalog/OWI-536-3-in-1-All-Terrain-Robot-Kit---ATR---non-solder-134.html

The $36 OWI Kabuto Mushi Robot is IR controlled and has potential, too: http://www.owirobots.com/cart/catalog/OWI-8800-Kabuto-Mushi-Robot-Kit---Rhinoceros-Beetle-80.html

BTW, that site has excellent prices on all the OWI robots, especially if you buy in bulk.

From what I see, the details are somewhat sketchy. I'd love to build a tracked 'Bot, but not sure how this works.

I can't find a video on that first one.

I have a Kabuto Mushi and it works quite well. Video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqvEITp0r_c My favorite thing is that both gearboxes can be mechanically shifted into 3 different speeds; that video shows low and high speeds. Lowest speed is very torquey and easy to control.

Also, KM and its IR controller can select any of 8 channels to work on. That is so you can control 8 robots simultaneously without interference.

That could be a good find for controlling eight parts of a single robot like a robotic helicopter or short range satellite.
