eMarket Harrumph!

Although the project and object of the week are great additions ot the parallax website, I've got to say I'm disappointed with the eMarket page. For some reason, I used to check the parallax site almost every day for the daily deal and now find fewer reasons to visit, especially for a full page of CCFL lamp strips.

I understand that the new page has several sales listed and that people probably complained about the daily deal upon finding out after the fact that their favorite item was on sale just a couple days ago and they missed it. To be fair, the page does provide a fair bit of convenience to find sale items (that never seem to change).

There's my 2 cents. I hate to complain because parallax does so many great things but felt the opinion worth getting out there. Any thoughts?

    Invent-O-Doc,

I've asked the Marketing team to look into the Daily Deal again, as you're among many who have asked for us to return it to our web site. But it's going to be difficult to put those HB-25s on the Daily Deal after paying a load more for the motor driver chips in our latest build. As long as you don't expect HB-25s on the Daily Deal I think we can handle this request.

    Point noted & appreciated.

Ken: I have not said so before, but I used to check most days. Now it's not that I actually bought any of the daily deals because freight overseas kills any benefit. It was just a great drawcard and it often meant I looked at the projects of the week and other things. Maybe not so much discount because they were really great deals? There obviously was quite a bit of work involved. Perhaps it could be a weekly deal? But I do think the effort was worth it and we used to see discussions on the main forums about the specials.
So, all-in-all, I think it was a great drawcard.

I too used to check "every day" but actually dont bother even goping to the home page now - which means I'm probably missing some good announcements.

I used the "daily deal" in the past, on the Prop PDB to contact our local distributor to see if he could 'match' the price. It took a few days - but I got the daily deal - LOCALLY - and whist the price conversion wasn't _exactly_ the same, it was a GREAT deal.

Bring them back - even if only to get me to check the home page....

Cluso's idea of less discount, but for longer timeframe has _much_ merit.

I also really liked the daily deal and purchased what was offered several times. The only problem I had was that I often didn't want to pay shipping for just what was offered that day. So, I'd end up not buying the deal.

For me, if you start the daily deal again it would be nice if parallax would set aside a box somewhere marked "schill." Then, I could order the daily deal and just have it put in the box. After the box filled up to a certain height, Parallax could ship it to me (or Ken or Chip could just hand deliver it to me at the next UPE :) ).

Obviously, that's not going to happen (how many boxes would Parallax want to keep track of?). But the idea of ordering only what was offered sometimes seemed a waste of the box and postage (even though Parallax postage for small items can be very inexpensive within the US) - especially if it was something very small.

I still check the home page almost every day, but the reason I started doing that was the daily deal.

Right on, I just thought a lot of people would be like me and that the daily deal would keep your web traffic up. Thanks for the polite discussion on this folks (I was worried about getting flamed but alas, these forums are pretty friendly).

Good call, Invent-O-Doc & Ken! Poking around the Daily Deals and Woot is fun and I do miss that on the Parallax home page and go there less as a result. Will look forward to seeing it again. Meanwhile, I'll root through the pile of things I've nabbed thus far. Things I just couldn't live without. For reasons that escape me right now...

BTW, If the quantities are limited and things can sell out, it increases the urgency to visit early & often!

"Hey, I didn't get a harrumph out of that guy!"
We're starting up the wheels again for the Daily Deal, but we're going to call it the Weekly Deal. We're trying this out, no promises that it will stay for all time.

    If you go to: http://www.parallax.com/Store/tabid/60/Default.aspx
You will find a survey, and the survey will decide which product we'll put on sale for a week.
The survey will change each Tuesday, around 2:00pm PST, and the deal will be announced on Wednesday morning the following week.

Wow. Its worth a try! I feel like I've been listened to and am looking forward to telling my wife about deals I got on things I "needed".
