At that price, I hope they compensate for beer goggles.

Everyone looks better after your glasses' battery gives out! :)

I recently paid $600 for a pair of gradient-focus lenses. I would gladly pay $1200 for a pair of autofocus glasses that actually worked and didn't look dorky. But they would have to track my pupils to judge the focal distance, not rely on an accelerometer. The latter (as featured in the link) would be useless for grocery shopping, for example, where you're looking straight ahead but up close. It would also be a nuisance while looking down into the Grand Canyon, say, hoping to focus on some detail.

Someday, when I'm old and need cataract surgery, I hope the ophthalmological boffins will have invented focusable replacement lenses, thus obviating a need for corrective optics altogether.

I'm nearsighted and now have presbyopia as well. Neither bifocals or progressives give the crisp vision I used to have with glasses. If they could develop an autofocus lens I'd buy it.

This has real possibilities for improvement and more slick features. Some time ago I had worked on the Electronic Lens Project. Its goal was to replace conventional lenses with electronic ones that get used in telescopes. Eventually the design led to an all-electronic telescope complete with oculars and objective. So I think there's room to grow with these ideas. In the future, a set of vision glasses will be remarkable in what they can do. So far, the times are a little backwards, as the lenses are still mechano-optical. If you can scratch or touch the lens, then IMO it's not of "back to the future" stature.

Sorry boss, I can't make it in today..... I forgot to charge my glasses.

Hey, I'll bet it's a Lithium battery in those fancy glasses..... You'd have to sit in the smoking section of the restaurant as a precaution.

Hmm... I wonder if that finger swipe can be taken as offense in some cultures. :-)

    $1200!

Ouch.. I'm horrible on glasses.. Fortunately I can buy $5.00 readers now..

Own a dozen pair all over the shop and home so I can grab one at will.
When one gets scratched or stepped on it's no big deal, but $1200 glasses.. Nope wouldn't work here.
