Battery pack on the boe bot

Is it a big problem if I put rechargeable batterry in the battery pack of the boe bot?
Could it damage the microcontrollor?

    But I actually didn't do it on purpose.

    You can use rechargable batteries with the BoeBot, but 4 NiMH rechargables only produce 4.8V (4 x 1.2V) which is not enough for the voltage regulator to work properly. The solution is to add an extra battery holder for a total of 5 NiMH cells (5 x 1.2V = 6V). I bought a single AA battery holder from RadioShack, glued it to the top of the chassis just above the pivot ball, and wired it in series with the 4 AA battery holder below ... works great. Parallax sells a "clip on" single AA battery holder that mounts to the existing battery holder and doesn't require any soldering, the "Boe Boost", here.
