Hello to All,

First...Thank You Parallax Form.

Although things did not go as I had projected, I will still go forward with what I have developed, updated and continue to improve upon. Lots of things I had to learn and do on my own, My only regret is my long learning curve. I have no regrets for what I have learned(knowledge is power), but WOW!!! I should have started earlier. Anyway, this was a thought I had, put together and finished(minus enhancements). Different articles in Nuts & Volts and Parallax Forum have both inspired and bummed me out. I could have come out earlier with this unit but the more advanced and Enhanced version took over and I could not stop, any way, its up and working great and will be even more refined with a different chip set already in the works. The software seems to be flawless and flowing as (I) projected. It's only when it gets into the mass public do the flaws really start to pop up. I have spent many of sleepless nights thinking through the process and what should happen and I hope it shows in its operation. More documentation will be added to the website.

Please,Please,Please give all feed back so that I can improve on what I am trying to accomplish.

Let me know of any , any , any flaws or problems with the site.....Purchases not allow at this time.

PS.:Chris S. site came down and back up 10 x better then before, not that the other one was bad and now I'm thinking WOW, what a leap........More inspiration.

I may not using the best Web development software on the market(Web Easy 8), but it is what it is for now, Plus a year of FREE web hosting.

So check it out, let me know, give all feed back.

Your site is not to bad how ever when you do start selling kits I would give as much details about these kits as you can so you know what you are buying

The home page looks a little bit cluttered and I find the black type on a dark background difficult to read (old eyes). As sam said, kit details would be a selling point.

Be sure to run everything through a spell checker. It's "discrete", for example, not "descrete" (homepage under "Just the minimum!!!").

    HM,

On the home page: "discrete", not "descrete". (Mr. Pilgrim just caught this also)

On the GDV Controller page: "phased", not "fazed".

    HM,

After looking through you website, I'm still not sure what your product does. I think it something so I don't have to wonder whether of not my garage door is open?

Did you have a Nut & Volts article about your product lately?

The Basic Stamp II is great for learning to use a microcontroller but I don't think it is used in many commercial products. It's my understanding that it is a rather expensive way to add a microcontroller to something. I believe there are many more cost effective controllers out there. Even a Propeller chip costs much less than a BS2 and just think about the features you could add with one of those. Heck, you could probably add a touchscreen to go with the Propeller for less money than a Basic Stamp II would cost.

    Good luck with your endeavor.

The website is working now. It's exciting to see these new products coming out, incorporating BASIC Stamps. You should have a downloads section for software and links to larger pics when you click on the thumbnails. Can you elaborate on the sentence about not being granted a patent? You will also need a contact section with name, address, phone, email..

It's just my opinion - the BASIC Stamp is a lot easier to program and develop than some other chips that are more complicated or have less documentation, and paying a little extra for the Stamp module is well worth the price. At a later date it's possible to incorporate the OEM design into a board for cost savings.

    What does it do?

    What is it?

    Why do I need one?

What is the problem this device solves?

    Who? What? When? Where? Why?

I agree with some of the other comments listed above. I don't even know what the device is supposed to do. Does it notify you of a open garage via radio? Does it close it automatically? Using a Basic Stamp in a finished commercial product is rare. It might be used in prototypes, but you would be better off with a smaller micro. The MSP430 is a highly useful uC when it comes to small electronic devices. The C/ C++ language it uses is easy to pick up(If you are in to C) AND they are 3 dollars or less. They have a comparable amount of memory that a Stamp 2 has and some of them have a integrated ADC and internal temperature sensor. I am not trying to discourage you using Parallax products(Nothing can beat the Propeller for video apps:)), but you could shave off 45 dollars off of your final product, thereby increasing your chance of selling product and developing a name.... Good luck:)

As ohers have mentioned, what does it do?

I assume it will close the door automatically if left open for a period of time. If this is the case, this would create a VERY dangerous situation. A door could close on a person!

Most doors have an electric eye to check for something in the way, however, that is only a narrow band and your feet could easily straddle the beam.

The door should reverse before killing someone, provided the reversing sensor is working properly

Door are very heavy and their springs often fail.

As for the site, if you want to pursue this, simplify and clarify your message.

Chris, if it's a garage door like the one I have at my place then it can detect if something is preventing it from moving down and reverse direction.
