I sure hope the poor man doesn't hurt himself with that thing.
It looks like an electrocution waiting to happen.
At the very least, I'm predicting it will knock his teeth out first chance it gets.
But what's the deal with the chains on his forearms?
Like you say he's a character. He wears chain mail vest and the chains to build strength. He figures if he adds extra weight it will take more energy to move and then when he does not wear them he has more power (less resistance) It's his form of exercise (not that he needs it with all he does.
I think it's part of his secret death wish, no doubt an expression of his subconscious intentions to electrocute himself and make it look like an accident.

No, no, think of it as a protable Faraday cage with grounding straps......
Wow! That project is really fantastic, he has 266 videos on Youtube which are very entertaining and humorous! I watched part 53 and it looks like he has a lot more work to do. But what he has accomplished outside of the robot project is equally fantastic - Building the workshop, solar grid, dome, and machines to mill wood and metal...
Jamie is great, he has become quite an Internet celebrity with all his GR updates. I'm sure at least part of his crazed mad scientist appearance is hamming it up for the camera.
I thought this one is supposed to carry him, but it looks too weak for that right now. He'll fix it, though. Replace the failed polycarbonite and weld some more rebar on!
