Portable tool for measuring shaft angular velocity

Hey Everyone,
My supervisor at work is in the market to buy a portable tachometer. Such as a strobe tach.
While I have used strobes on shafts to measure angular velocity, I'm curious if anyone here has used one of these portable tachometers and if one unit is better than the next
Thanks,
AJ

If theirs a way to over complicate a simple task, One will find it.

Its like P-P mills verse velocity in inches per second for vibration. The Peak to Peak mills meter will cost about $400, The Velocity in inches per second meter $1200. Both meters have the same resolution. But the later has a brainy sounding name and will cost you more $$.

Take a look at AMETEK. I have two AMETEK strobe tachometer's and both are extremely accurate for measuring shaft RPM.

I'm not sure if they will work with your shaft angular velocity set-up

I hope this helps,
