LED SIP for Proto Boards

Any recommendations for this part? 8 LEDs in one SIP component Multiple resistors come in handy SIP packages and work well to reduce component count and labor time. I went to the parts store and asked for something similar, only I wanted LED SIP arrays, and they thought I was from the Moon. They had many arrays, like blocks of 5x8 or 10x10. Is the 1x8 really a rare item?

Digikey have a number of 4 and 2 led SIPs here. Maybe you could superglue them together?

I too have the same requirement. Why doesn't someone make a SIP pack with 8 LEDs in it, preferably also including series resistors and with a single common pin for connection to VCC (9 pins altogether, like many commoned 8-resistor packs)? Then it could be connected directly to the output of a microprocessor I/O port or an octal latch or driver.

As I recall hot dogs come in packages of 8 and buns in packages of 10. I suppose someone that worked with hot dogs decided LEDs should be 10 to a package or 5 in an 8 bit world.

The best I can come up with it must have something to do with humans being involved.

I have managed to buy rectangular shaped LEDs that can be grouped into 4 or 8 and since Digikey has pairs and quads, that would make it even easier to build something.

But even the 10 segment "bar graph" displays (I guess this is what you are referring to?) don't, as far as I know, have series resistors and a common VCC connection, do they? So for 8 LEDs you need a DIP-20 LED bargraph package, and a DIP-16 8-resistor package and lots of tracks. It would be so much easier and save so much space to have an 8-LED SIP-9 package!
