TV starts bright, then dims?

So what's up with that? It always happens on my Sony big box or a cheap-o DVD LCD with any Propeller hardware (Protoboard, Hydra, other). The picture starts about 2x as bright for a second then dims.

Sometimes the monitors clamp their black levels to where they expect black to be. If at that point there is something other than black then the clamps will fight against the signal. You could try "auto" setup to see if the monitor will acount for it on its own or fiddle with the front and back poarch timings (on the horizontal usually)

NTSC or VGA? I had this problem with VGA on a Sylvania video monitor and fixed it by adjusting the width of one of the sync pulses ('can't remember which one -- sorry).
