i dont know if i killed it but i tried and failed getting prop recognized. no eeprom or crystal , pretty simple circuit not sure so am ordering another prop, im feeling not so suped up, ill order the regs, caps & crystal new prop and should be good!

I tried using the prop plug to program a picaxe but that IDE wont list /recognise the prop usb-serial like the propeller does.

Its probably that i have been holding my mouth the wrong way, ill try things again in the morning:smile:

if im going to order i may as well make it hurt and buy a USB Prop, perhaps.:nerd:

Always check for power first - the regulator could be reversed on installation.
Then check to see is the plug is reversed.
Since the Prop Proto Board as 3 configurations, becareful to determine which is compatible.

i did have it connected to 6V at first, one jumper wire on breadboard was outa place:frown:

I have ordered a new prop(and usb prop) so i will be careful. I cant get this working, perhaps the chip is fried , perhaps not but ill soon know.

@mickal - I did a tutorial on programming the PICaxe with a prop plug here.

Reverse polarity can fry with as little as 0.5volts; while forward voltage can take over 6.0 volts in this case.

I've certainly had my share of sudden death events due to reversed polarity. It always is a jolt to the pocket book, but now I try to pause and verify wiring - especially the power supply - before I power up.

And yet, the Prop Plug is merely a generic USB to RS232 serial adapter - so there really isn't any reason it cannot be used in other contexts and with other micros.

@Nick, great thankyou. This will be very useful. I got half a dozen USB to Serial cables from China on ebay. They were only $2.00 each but after installing the drivers they dont work !!

@Loopy, I dont *think i reversed polarity. I will figure it out and post.
