RFID and hot/cold spots

Has anyone noticed that using the new (#28440) RFID module with Legacy tags seems to have more sensitivity to tag placement than the older (28140) RFID module? I need to use two readers very near to each other, so I was testing for interference, which doesn't seem to be such an issue, but I notice that the new reader really seems to like having the tags go by nearer to the components. Any ideas on how I speed up reading? Thanks in advance...
