Not particularly precise for dead reckoning as-is (8-unit resolution in 360 degrees) but possibly hackable for your own evil experiments. Some kind of compass sensor (flux gate?) and an LCD display. Heck, it's worth $8 just for the fun of tearing it apart and learning, n'est-ce pas?
