Propeller Platform's Uniform 0.1" spacing versus Arduino's pins 7 and 8 .16" spacing

I recently became the proud owner of a Propeller Platform kit. One thing I noticed while reading the assembly instructions is that the spacing between the four pin and sixteen pin headers is a uniform multiple of 0.1". This makes building your own shields our of perf board relatively simple.

The Arduino's inexplicable 0.16" spacing between pins 7 and 8 has always bugged me and I prefer the breadboard compatible versions, but they can't use the shields as a result.

So Congratulations to the Gadget Gangster because they avoided something that always bugged me about the Ardunio.

    Hmm... I've been reluctant to use the Arduino, though am attracted to AVRs in C. Everything I use is 0.1" pin spacing. Life just seems simpler that way. It all started with DIPs being so.

    I've got plenty of microprocessors for future projects, so I guess this is another personal excuse to skip Arduino for now.

    Someone somewhere is supposed to be making a Propeller Platform board with an atMega1284p ... I'm quite annoyed to be told that and not see some results by now especially as I had considered doing it myself.

    The reason for that odd spacing between the Arduino sockets is that the original designer of the PCB made a mistake (it was intended to be 0.2") and we have been stuck with it ever since.

    The Propeller ASC corrects this by adding a second row of headers that are .100" aligned. There are other Arduino clones that have this feature as well.

    {biased}But the ASC is much better{/biased}
